Henry Letters
On the 15th of September Room 7 wrote some letters to Henry, from Piccadilly Avenue Sunnyside West Coast. We are learning to letter write. He asked us some questions, like what do you like to do when you're not at school? What is your favourite subject? And many other questions. We had to write about what we looked like, what we play at lunch times, and who are our friends then we sent it away.

S.O.S. A night to remember
On Thursday the 27th of August was the year 5-8 Stars On Stage 2011 performance along with loads of other schools. The characters were Hip-Hop aliens,Ballet aliens, Grunge aliens, Planets and best of all the Stars and Comets. We worked for at least 5 weeks but it was absolutely worth it. We couldn't have done it with-out our four lovely helpers Alex with the costumes Mrs Mack and Mrs Tansley and Miss Gilbert who put the show together and a lot of adults. Our favourite show apart from ours was Elm Grove school. The costumes were: hats and glasses for Hip-hop and black suits and signs for planets, furry pants and tops for Grunge, silver silk suits for Ballet and last but not least SPARKLES for the Stars and Comets. We REALLY REALLY ENJOYED it and we're bound to do it again next time. :):) A BIG thanks to all the adults who gave up their time for us :)
S.O.S The Time the Butterflies Took Over.
It was a night to remember the stars shone brighter then ever.We were all very nervous. The butterflies did summersaults, flips and cartwheels. My first steps on the stage were slow, quiet and small.I got to my spot on the stage and slowly took a deep breath. I heard a voice say you can do it.I heard the crowd roar with astonishment of our fabulous costumes. The dance was over and we had our time of fabulous fame. After the curtain dropped it was over.My first time of Stars on Stage. It was amazing.Next time i'm going to be amazing. If it wasn't for the teachers I wouldn't be there .THANKS YOU TEACHERS.#1 BY MADI McArthur Lilly -Anne Adam

A fascinating description on the Taieri River.
In the break of dawn the class of Room 7 begin their journey to the Taieri River. We were split into groups of 3, 4 or 5. Once we were out of the full class the big wide world dawned on us. The cars we drove in to get there were cramped or spaced out. Once we arrived the entire class poured out of the cars, each child determined to get to the water first. The stones rubbbed against our tiny feet while we tumbled to the waters edge. The slow flowing current became more harsh the more we went out. How facinating the water was in some places the water gracefully dance across the stones. But the children soon became bored and that is when we decided to leave are fascinating river to return to the full class where we would begin our next step on our River, the Taieri. The Amazing Fun Game
It was a nice sunny day when Mrs MacKenzie said we could play a game of rugby. We all said "yes." We had a yellow and blue and a green team. All the people enjoyed playing rugby. The yellow team won. The best part was that it was so such fun and an amazing game. In the picture below, what do you think they are doing? A lot of people fell over but they didn't care because they were boys. The game finished far to quick!!!

Pounawea Camp
On Tuesday 22nd March I got to school, I was really nervous about Camp. I got my stuff and went to the bus, the driver put all our things away, then we were off to Pounawea. We went through Balclutha and had some morning tea there, we also played at the playground which was fun.
After morning tea we headed off to Pounawea, it was a long drive. Before we went there we stopped to have a wee look in the cave. The track to it was muddy, we had to have a torch because it was dark inside. Inside we made a noise like a train, it was cool. Later when all of our groups were done we followed Mrs Tansley back to the bus.
When we got to Pounawea the teacher told us where every room was, Leah and I set off to look at our room. After getting set up we headed to the rocky shore to look at some fish. When we got there the teacher gave us a sheet, we had to get a hoop and a booklet with all kinds of fish on it. Later we had to write what we did that day in our booklets.
We brushed our teeth in the bathroom and go ready for bed. The next morning we had a yummy breakfast in the dining room. We went to see the McLean falls, when we got there we had to walk up a rocky path, it was beautiful I loved it soooooo much. The water looked like crystals shining in the sun. Then we went to the each to look in the caves, they were really dark.
I started to feel a bit nervous because next was the Confidence Course - OH NO! When I got to the Confidence Course I was shaking like a leaf! Horray I did it all by myself, there was nothing to be worried about after all. We headed back for camp it was fun today. After we had dinner I went straight to bed that was a long day today i was really ready for bed zzzzzzzzzz.
The third day of camp we got ready, the teacher called us into the lounge to tell us what we were going to be doing canoeing, museum visit, fishing and orienteering.
Day four, leaving day. Leah and me got ready for the busy packing day, we were heading for the Nuggets Lighthouse. When we got there we had to walk up a steep hill, from the lighthouse we saw Sea Lions.
Camp was awesome - I had the best trip, can't wait until next time!

Lucky Jessica!

Jessica and her family are in America! We can tell by the photos that she is having a great time. We are looking forward to seeing her and her photos soon!
Gotcha
Today Mrs MacKenzie taught us a new game called Gotcha. You get into circle and you put your left hand out, you have to have it flat or you are cheating. Then you put your right finger in neighbours palm. Somebody says a number. Then they call out a bunch of numbers until they get to the number that they said first. When the number is called out you remove your finger and try to catch your neighbours finger at the same time. Play this game and tell us how it went.

Lost and Found
On Tuesday the whole entire class played hide and seek.I ran to hide in the bush so I couldn't be found. When I knew I was completly hidden I waited and waited and waited.Suddenly I saw Emily and Alex P.I was as still as a stone until they finally left."Phew"I whispered.A wasp flew into the bush and buzzed like a fly. All three seekers were beside the pool.I spied on them until they ran to find everybody elsewhere. The wasp then left. I heard the bell ring so I left for lunch.

Do you know what these are?
We spotted all kinds of interesting things on our nature walk. We took photos of these because they were so strange. Do you know what they are? Can you find out for us and record what you know as a comment under the pictures. Let's ask Mrs Steadman when we go to the Allen Centre and see if she can answer our questions too.

Thank you very much!
A big thank you to all of the helpers that came to camp. Thank you also to all the parents that worked hard behind the scenes to make sure everyone had all the equipment they needed.
Our Whare Flat Tramping Adventure
Last Monday, Outram School Year 4 students went on an exciting adventurous tramp. The tramp was the first of our Tirohanga Camp activities.
We travelled in cars in convoy to get to the start of the Whare Flat tramp. After walking for five minutes up a dirt road we came to a sign that said "track". We walked for two or three minutes before we came to a creek. We walked across the creek holding onto a wire. Some people got wet feet, some people fell in!
Next we headed up a muddy track. After about twenty minutes we stopped at the top of the hill in a pine forest, to have a late morning tea. Then we started to go downhill and across a ridge line. We passed a hut, and followed the water race for a long time before we came to another creek. We crossed the rippling fresh creek on stones and pulled ourselves up a muddy slippery slope with a rope.
We followed Mrs Lord and Alex P along the track until we came to a crossroad in the track where we had to head downhill. At the bottom of the hill we found a clearing with a swing bridge, we had lunch before we crossed the bridge.
After crossing the swaying swing bridge we came to a ford. We all got wet feet walking through the ch-ch-ch-ch-chilly water. At long last we saw the cars.
What a mintage adventure!

Tirohanga Camp Games Extravangaza!
At camp my favourite thing was the Cam Edgecombe Extravaganza Event 1, the Tirohanga Handsoccer Grand Final.
Handsoccer is when you control an ordinary soccer ball with your hands into 1 of 2 chairs [goals] facing backwards. First of all,the ref drops the ball and calls a number between 1-16 .One goal= game over.

Our first two weeks at school
Our first two weeks back at school have been super busy. We have been setting up routines for our class and we have been swimming a lot! We made totem poles and colour wheels that are all about us.
We have started some school touch teams and t-ball and cricket are up and running for this sports season as well.
